Interactive Brokers changes overnight order default in TWS
خلاصہ۔:Interactive Brokers updated its TWS platform with a beta build that changes the default Time in Force to OVERNIGHT + DAY for overnight trading, moves the option up in the dropdown menu, and resolves Adaptive Limit order issues for API traders. Users can opt out via a new setting under Smart Routing Config.

Interactive Brokers has updated its Trader Workstation (TWS) platform with a new beta build that changes how orders are entered for overnight trading. The update introduces a revised default Time in Force (TIF) setting and a set of API improvements, according to the company's release notes for TWS Build 10.50, last updated on August 13, 2026.
The change is designed to streamline order entry for overnight trading. TWS now defaults the Time in Force to OVERNIGHT + DAY in two situations: when a user selects the OVERNIGHT exchange, and when a user creates an order for a contract traded on the OVERNIGHT exchange.
What the new default does
Previously, users trading on the OVERNIGHT exchange would have their orders default to an OVERNIGHT-only time in force. Under the new build, OVERNIGHT + DAY becomes the automatic selection, meaning an order can remain active through the overnight session and into the regular day session unless the user changes it.
To reinforce this preference, OVERNIGHT + DAY has been moved above OVERNIGHT in the TIF dropdown menu. The repositioning is intended to present the combined option as the preferred selection for traders.
How to opt out
Users who prefer the previous OVERNIGHT-only behaviour are not locked into the new default. They can opt out through a new setting called “Time In Force for Overnight Trading”, found by navigating to Settings, then Orders, then Smart Routing Config.
The same setting is also accessible through the “Edit SMART Routing Settings” link available in the OVERNIGHT/OVERNIGHT + DAY TIF tooltip. Users can also continue to manually modify the TIF on individual orders as needed.
What is not affected
The default change does not apply to every type of order. API-generated orders are not affected by the new TIF default, so automated traders using the platform's application programming interface will not see their order behaviour altered by this particular update.
API improvements
Alongside the TIF change, Interactive Brokers resolved issues affecting Overnight API orders submitted using the Adaptive Limit (Adaptive LMT) order type. The fix is intended to improve order handling and reliability for API traders who rely on overnight sessions.
The update reflects Interactive Brokers' ongoing effort to refine the TWS platform, with the latest beta build focused on making overnight order entry more straightforward while giving users the flexibility to retain their previous settings.
