This week, markets will focus on the FOMC minutes (Aug 20) and the opening of the Jackson Hole Symposium (Aug 21). Neither brings a new rate decision, but both could reshape expectations for the future interest-rate path.
The FOMC minutes may reveal how divided policymakers were on inflation and future rate moves. Jackson Hole, meanwhile, has historically delivered major policy signals—from Bernanke's QE2 hint in 2010 to Powell's framework change in 2020 and his hawkish warning in 2022.
For gold, changes in rate expectations are especially important. Traders should watch for signals on the Fed's policy outlook, particularly words related to framework changes, data dependence, restrictive policy, gradual easing, or patience.
Next week's Jackson Hole keynote (Aug 27–29) will be the main event to watch.
